Write for us
We welcome pitches from writers who can make a musical choice vivid, explain it clearly and leave room for readers to hear more than one side. Send proposals through the Contact page rather than submitting an unrequested full article.
What we are looking for
Pitch focused pieces on song structure, arrangement, instruments, recording or attentive listening. A strong idea starts with a distinct question and shows what a reader will be able to notice or understand by the end. We favour specific subjects over sweeping claims about what all good music must do.
A useful pitch
Include a working title, a short account of the central idea, the category it might fit and a note on why the subject suits Northern Music Review. Explain the comparisons, examples or listening cues you would use. Be candid about what you know and what would need checking; do not invent access, credentials or experience.
Voice and boundaries
We look for precise, readable prose that treats taste as taste and supports factual claims. Avoid promotional copy, unsupported superlatives and advice about technical work that requires a qualified professional. We may edit accepted work for accuracy, length and clarity, while preserving its intended argument.
Where to send it
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then identify your message as a pitch. Please send the proposal only; we will ask for further material if it is a fit.
